Career Technical College Shreveport
Established in Monroe, Louisiana, by Wayne McConnell and Jerry L. Mardis in October 1985, the Monroe school was purchased by Career Training Specialists, Inc. in September of 1988. In June of 1989 Career Training Specialists was accredited by the Commission of Occupational Education of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (now Council on Occupational Education).
In July of 1999, the stock of Career Training Specialists, Inc. was purchased by Delta Educational Systems, Inc., a Virginia Corporation that is domiciled in North Carolina. The name was changed to Career Technical College upon the approval to offer Associate of Occupational Studies Degrees (AOS) and diplomas.

Associate of Occupational Studies Degree:
Surgical Technology
The vocational objective of the Surgical Technology Program is to prepare graduates to work as a Surgical Technologist in an operating room with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical team members. Surgical Technologists maintain asepsis in the operating room, pass instruments and sterile items and equipment to the surgeon during a procedure, maintain the sterile field, and prepare instruments, supplies and equipment before and after an operation. Graduates may be eligible for positions as Scrub Surgical Technologist, Circulating Surgical Technologist, or Second Assisting Technologist. Graduates of CAAHEP-accredited programs are eligible to sit for the national certification exam in Surgical Technology to become a Certified Surgical Technologist. (CST)

Medical Assisting
The vocational objective of the Medical Assisting Program is to prepare graduates to work as a Medical Assistant in doctors' offices, hospitals and other medical facilities, performing both administrative and clinical duties under the supervision of a licensed health care practitioner. Medical Assistant graduates are eligible to directly challenge the AAMA Certification Examination for Medical Assistants for the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential. This is the only medical assisting credential that is currently recognized by the American Association of Medical Association (AAMA).

Massage Therapy
The educational objective of the program is the associate of applied science degree. The vocational objective of the program is to provide the graduate with a broad business and academic background on which to pursue entrepreneurial pursuits in the spa/healing arts and allied health fields, as well as the necessary medical/clinical skills to perform the duties of a massage therapist.

Administrative Office Technology
The Administrative Office Technology program provides training for an entry-level career in general office support in computerized offices. The program emphasizes hands-on experience with currently popular software programs as well as business and accounting applications and develops traits employers seek such as the ability to assume responsibility, make decisions, and work independently. Graduates may pursue career opportunities in business, industry, or government as administrative assistants, executive secretaries, and general office managers.

Management
The Management program provides training for the person seeking an entry-level career in business enterprise, general business skills for entrepreneurial pursuits, or promotion opportunities to those currently in the field. The program includes a broad mix of course work that allows the student to acquire a blend of basic business skills and human understanding to supervise other workers, to plan operations, to establish policies, and to pursue business goals. Management training may be applied to many business fields. Entry-level positions may be as sales representatives, management trainess, and service representatives in business, industry, and governmental agencies.
